The best time to get married in Bali is during the dry season, roughly April to October, and for most couples, May to September is the sweet spot. August is the driest month, with about 15 mm of rain on just 2 wet days, while January is the wettest, with about 262 mm over 18 wet days. The weather changes a lot throughout the year, but the light barely does: sunset shifts by only 41 minutes over the entire year. This guide walks through each month's rainfall, cloud cover, and sunset time, shows what they mean for your wedding photos, and gives you a rain plan for any date you choose.
For most couples, the best time to get married in Bali is May to September. Those five months each average between 15 and 51 mm of rain and 2 to 6 wet days, with skies clearer than at any other time of year. April and October sit at the edges of the dry season, with 89 mm and 56 mm of rain. December to March is the wettest stretch, with 150 to 262 mm a month, so choose it only if you are comfortable planning around rain.
Bali's two seasons in numbers
Bali sits almost 8 degrees south of the equator, so temperature hardly changes. Denpasar's average daily highs range from about 29°C to 32°C year-round, and the sea stays between 26°C and 29°C. What changes is rain and cloud.
WeatherSpark's long-term Denpasar averages place the wetter season between November 11 and March 29, when each day has a better-than-one-in-three chance of being wet, and the drier season between March 29 and November 11. Many travel guides describe this as a dry season from April to October, which is easier to plan around.
Cloud follows the same pattern. In January, the sky is overcast or mostly cloudy 88% of the time. In August, it is clear, mostly clear, or partly cloudy 48% of the time. Humidity stays high all year, with about 99% of hours rated muggy or worse in every month, so plan hair, makeup, and outfits for humidity, whatever the date.
These are averages for Denpasar. Rainfall varies across the island, so treat the numbers as a benchmark rather than a forecast for your venue.

What the dry season means for your photos
The dry season gives you clear skies, strong sunsets, and the most predictable ceremony schedule. September and October bring the brightest light of the year, with about 6.8 kWh per square meter of daily solar energy, against 4.5 in January and February.
Two practical points. First, the sun. Midday light is harsh, and Ferry Tjoe, a professional photographer since 2006, advises avoiding the middle of the day for portraits. If the sun is strong, he places it behind the couple or finds shade. Second, the wind. From May 8 to October 22, the average wind speed is above 7.3 mph (about 12 km/h), peaking at 9.1 mph (about 15 km/h) in August. A breeze looks lovely in a veil, but anchor floral arches, signage, and table decor.
What the wet season means for your photos
In January, 18 of the month's 31 days are wet on average, so expect rain on more than half your days. That is the main trade-off: less predictable timing and a real need for covered space.
The upside is light. Ferry's view is that an overcast sky is ideal for soft light and dramatic clouds, with no squinting and even skin tones. Weather is part of what makes each wedding unique, and a well-prepared couple can still get beautiful photos on a wet day. The rain plan below shows how.
Peak and quiet months: what the visitor data says
Bali wedding season tracks the tourism calendar. Bali received 6,948,754 international visitors in 2025, up 9.72% on 2024, according to the Bali Hotels Association. Hotel occupancy peaked in July at 85.9%, according to Horwath HTL, driven by Australian winter and European summer demand.
December is the second surge. BPS Bali recorded 572,668 international arrivals in December 2025, up 18.48% on November's 483,364, and star-rated hotel occupancy rose from 57.97% to 60.88%.
In practice, July, August and late December fill venues, planners and photographers first. Our guide on how far in advance to book a Bali wedding photographer covers timing. If you want dry-season weather outside the July peak, look at May, June and September, which average 28 to 51 mm of rain.
Your rain plan: protect your wedding photos on any date
- Choose a venue with covered space. Ask where the ceremony, portraits and reception would move if it rains.
- Agree on a rain decision time. Set it with your planner and photographer, for example, three hours before the ceremony, so nobody decides in a rush.
- Build in buffer. Leave 30 to 45 minutes between the ceremony and portraits so portraits can move to a drier window.
- Scout covered portrait spots. Open-air pavilions, covered walkways and doorways all photograph well in soft light.
- Pack for rain. Clear umbrellas, towels, a spare pair of shoes and a cover for the dress train.
- Let your photographer adapt. Our packages include personalised timeline guidance, so the schedule can shift without losing the key moments.
Which month should you choose?
The best time to get married in Bali depends on what matters most to you. Match your priority to a month:
- Lowest chance of rain: July, August, and September, with 30 mm, 15 mm, and 28 mm of rainfall and 4, 2, and 3 wet days, respectively.
- Clearest skies: July and August, when skies are clear to partly cloudy 46% and 48% of the time.
- Brightest light: September and October, with approximately 6.8 kWh/m² of daily solar energy.
- Dry weather with some flexibility: April, May, June and October, with rainfall of 89 mm, 51 mm, 36 mm and 56 mm, respectively.
- Soft, moody light: November to March, when skies are mostly cloudy or overcast 80% to 88% of the time.
- Latest sunsets: January and February, at approximately 6:45 PM and 6:44 PM, respectively, on the 15th of each month.

FAQ
What is the best month to get married in Bali?
August is the driest and clearest month, averaging about 15 mm of rain on 2 wet days, with clear to partly cloudy skies 48% of the time. July and September are close behind at 30 and 28 mm. For most couples, May to September gives the most reliable weather for ceremonies and sunset portraits.
Is it a bad idea to get married in Bali during the rainy season?
No, but it needs a plan. The wetter season runs from about November 11 to March 29, and January averages 262 mm of rain over 18 wet days. A covered backup venue, a rain decision time and a flexible timeline keep photos on track, and overcast skies give soft, even light for portraits.
What time is sunset in Bali for wedding photos?
Sunset in Denpasar falls between 6:06 PM and 6:47 PM all year, a spread of only 41 minutes. It is about 6:15 PM in July and 6:32 PM in December. Golden hour starts roughly 30 minutes before sunset, and the last hour of light is the best window for couple portraits.
When is the busiest time to get married in Bali?
July is the busiest month for hotels, with 85.9% occupancy in 2025. December is a second peak, when international arrivals rose 18.48% on November to 572,668. Venues, planners and photographers tend to fill first for these dates, so confirm yours early.
What happens to wedding photos if it rains on the day?
The photos still happen. A photographer moves portraits to covered spots, uses the soft overcast light and shifts the timeline around showers. Agree a rain decision time and a 30 to 45 minute buffer beforehand, and pick a venue with covered space for the ceremony and portraits.
